The Starting Point: Bare Concrete in a Working Ski Garage

This Silverthorne garage worked hard: two vehicles, ski storage along the wall, and a slab that had spent years absorbing everything a Summit County winter tracks in. Bare concrete at 8,700 feet takes real abuse — road salt and mag chloride drip off the cars daily, snowmelt pools under the tires, and the surface slowly dusts and pits under freeze-thaw cycling.

The homeowners wanted a floor that would clean up easily, handle ski gear and boot traffic, and look intentional — not just painted.

The System: Full-Broadcast Tan Flake

The homeowners chose a warm tan flake blend from our color chart — a palette that hides the sand, gravel, and pine needles of mountain life between sweepings and pairs naturally with the home's finishes. The build was our standard full-broadcast epoxy flake system:

• Diamond grinding — the entire slab was mechanically ground to open the pores, and surface imperfections were repaired
• Moisture-blocking epoxy base coat — critical on Summit County slabs, which routinely carry moisture vapor from snowmelt
• Flake broadcast to rejection — flakes thrown until the surface can't hold any more, for a full-thickness, uniform wear layer
• Polyaspartic topcoat — UV-stable and salt-resistant, so the floor won't yellow in high-altitude sun or etch under de-icer
