Metallic Epoxy

What Is a Metallic Epoxy Floor?

Metallic epoxy is a designer floor system: metallic pigments — mica particles coated in reflective oxides — are suspended in clear epoxy and hand-worked across the floor while the material is still wet. The pigments drift, swirl, and settle as the epoxy cures, creating a three-dimensional marbled effect that looks like molten metal, river stone, or polished lava depending on the colors you choose.

Because the pattern forms as the material moves, every metallic floor is genuinely one of a kind. We can influence the effect — tight marbling versus broad veining, one pigment or several, subtle pearl versus high-contrast drama — but no two installs are ever identical. That's the point.

🏔️ Mountain-home favorites

Charcoal-and-pewter, bronze-and-espresso, and slate-blue blends pair naturally with timber, stone, and steel — the palette of Colorado mountain architecture.

Where Metallic Floors Shine

  • Finished basements & media rooms — warmer and far more interesting than carpet over concrete, and immune to spills
  • Car collector garages & showrooms — the classic pairing; the floor becomes part of the display
  • Home bars, gyms & studios — a durable statement surface that handles weights, moisture, and traffic
  • Retail & tasting rooms — commercial durability with a finish customers photograph
  • Mudroom-adjacent living spaces — where you want continuity from utility areas into the home

For a working mountain garage that eats road salt and ski gear all winter, our epoxy flake system is usually the more practical choice — the flake texture hides grit and adds slip resistance. Metallic is the pick when the floor itself is meant to be seen.

How We Install Metallic Epoxy

1

Diamond Grinding & Crack Repair

The floor is diamond-ground and repaired to a smooth, uniform substrate. Metallic finishes telegraph every flaw beneath them, so prep is even more critical here than on a flake floor.

2

Pigmented Base Coat

A solid-color epoxy base — usually black or a deep tone matched to your pigments — goes down first. It's what gives the metallic layer its depth.

3

Metallic Coat, Hand-Worked

The metallic-loaded epoxy is poured and worked with rollers, brushes, and denatured alcohol drops to create movement. This is the artistry step — it can't be rushed and it can't be replicated.

4

Polyaspartic Protection

Once cured, the finish is sealed under a clear polyaspartic topcoat — the same UV-stable, chemical-resistant wear layer we trust on mountain garage floors. Matte or gloss, your call.

Durability: Art You Can Park On

Under the topcoat, a metallic floor is every bit as tough as our garage systems — resistant to abrasion, chemicals, moisture, and UV. It cleans with a dust mop and the occasional damp pass. In basements it eliminates the flooded-carpet risk entirely; concrete-and-coating floors don't care about water heaters or spring snowmelt the way flooring materials do.
